Your DMARC score looks good, here is why that can be misleading

Why green does not always mean safe

Most DMARC checkers validate record presence and syntax. That is useful, but not the same as operational protection.

A domain can score well while critical streams remain unauthenticated or misaligned.

A basic checker reports configuration signals; it does not assess resilience across the full sender landscape.

What many score-based checks miss

  • SPF or DKIM pass without proper domain alignment.
  • Policy remains p=none with no active blocking.
  • Third-party senders are partially configured.
  • Shadow senders outside known inventories.

Common green but vulnerable patterns

  • p=none with rua configured, no enforcement.
  • DKIM exists but selectors are stale or not used.
  • SPF technically passes while alignment fails.
  • Only part of business mail sources are covered.

What a meaningful assessment includes

  • Enforcement readiness and rollout risk.
  • Full sender landscape mapping.
  • Alignment quality by source and flow.
  • Deliverability impact and governance fit.
